Diplopia (Double Vision)

Diplopia is one of the most frustrating visual disorders. Patient's can experience vertical or horizontal double vision or possibly a combination of both. The ability to walk, read and perform common activities is suddenly disrupted. The management of double vision may include prisms, vision therapy, eye muscle surgery and occlusion. The ultimate goal is to establish clear binocular single vision. This may require a prescribed combination of the above therapies. Since most patients may recover over time without surgery; it should not initially be considered. The use of prisms can be a great tool in the treatment of diplopia.

New advances in vision therapy are showing very promising results in the elimination of double vision and achieving good binocular vision.
